Customer reviews
Good for the price!
I never got into the whole ipods. Mostly because all my CD players (including the one in my car) could all play MP3s. But I knew the time had come to stop trying to run and having a CD fanny pack on my side. My main goal was to get something small and that had a clip. I guess you see why I found this one. I knew I was never going to watch movies on it. I probably could have gotten the 2gb and been just fine, but I thought I would get the 4gb because it looked cooler and hopefully it would last me longer (no reason to upgrade).
Over all I’m pretty pleased with it. The sound isn’t that great. You aren’t going to get any great bass out of this little of player. (but it could be configured some) There are plenty of options to go through and a little learning curve to figure out how to go forward and back through the menus. The Radio is good enough for this size of player. I haven’t tried the voice recorder.
You loose anything on the screen in any sun light. I usually have to get everything set up in the garage and then leave it. The only way to charge it is hook it up to a USB port. This isn’t too bad, but it takes a lot longer to charge. Also, I ended up loosing the clip on the back like 3 days after I got it (I was doing some yard work) I didn’t even notice I had lost it until a week later. I e-mailed SanDisk and told them what happen. They said they would ship me another one for free (which I thought was nice) its just taking probably 6 weeks to get to me!
The clip broke in the first week.
Good and Bad:
Good:
*It’s the size of a match book.
*Unbelievably Light, So light in fact you can clip it upside down to the bottom of your t-shirt during a workout.
*It sounds good with the headphones in the box and FANTASTIC with my Bose earphones.
Bad:
*The clip broke within the first week.
*You cannot buy replacement clips as of this review date.
*Do not waste your time and money until they fix this issue!
Great capacity/price and function
This is a great player for the athelete. The clip seems quite solid and should stand up over time clipped to your shirt/belt for exercise (within reason, it’s still plastic folks). While it is bigger than the iPod shuffle, it has 4 GBytes and does not require iTunes (and associated mandated QuickTime security exploit vectors) and has a lot more functions. (Playlist, settings, repeat one/all, specific folders, etc).
I use Linux, flawless operation. Plug it in, screen comes up asking if you want Amarok to control the player and you are done. I haven’t had the chance to run the battery down because I am still adding music, but several hours the battery indicator still showed 100%.
Pro’s
Easy to use, playlists are not that hard to create, small size, built in clip, essentially weightless (this won’t add to your mile time, lol). At least with Linux (don’t use Windows, others comment?), it works exactly as a flash storage device, so you can carry your Music (organised by Amarok) as well as your pictures, files, etc.
Con’s
Well, always true, the included headphones are “adequate”, but using my upgraded in ear headphones.
Volume with upgraded headphones is good, however, if using with an FM transmitter, get a good rated one, because a low power transmitter with this might mean low radio volume.
Neutral
It comes with a 5″ (or so) USB cable, so it dangles from the front of my desktop, without reaching the desk, but again, it is so light, this won’t be a problem. If, however, you need to attach to the back of your machine, the included cable will be a pain.

Great MP3 Player
I bought a Sansa Clip for my son for Christmas this year, and I like it so much that I bought one for myself. I think this player is such a great deal. It is one of the cheapest mp3 players on the market and it has about every feature you could want. It has fantastic sound, intuitive navigation, a FM tuner, ability to use subscription services such as Rhapsody. The only things I would ask for is for it to come with a DC Adapter for charging rather than having to use USB and a button on the device that can turn shuffle on and off without going through the menu.
An mp3 player for people who aren’t jerks
The Sansa Clip Silver is a great all-around mp3 player, and a great value at this price. I was waiting a long time since they first announced it to get one, and ordered it the second it became available.
I’ve been using it to work out at the gym for weeks now, and I like it a lot.
Pros:
+ Simplicity - you don’t have to deal with installing any proprietary software like iTunes. Just drag and drop, like the rest of the sansa mp3 players.
+ 4GB of storage provides plenty of space for music.
+ Features - has an FM tuner and voice recorder, which are convenient if you need them
+ Very light - clip it to clothing, put it in a pocket, or carry it with no problem
+ Good battery life
Cons:
- As mentioned in another review, the shiny faceplate looks good, but it’s almost impossible to read in the sunlight because of the reflection. Since I mainly use it to work out indoors, it isn’t too much of an issue for me.
- The placement of the hold slider and volume rocker is a little awkward at times because it’s so small. Because of this, I need to use two hands to turn it on/off.
- The included earbuds sound okay, but the wiring doesn’t have a thick plastic coating like iPod earbuds so they get tangled more easily
Overall, the Sansa Clip Silver is a good-looking, simple mp3 player. It does everything an mp3 player should do, no more, no less. As an added bonus, and the best thing about it, it doesn’t the pretentious aura of an iPod. An mp3 player for people with nothing to prove.
