Canon Pixma MP970 All-In-One Inkjet Printer 5
The printer is easy to install. I’ve only scratched the surface of it’s capabilities, but I love it so far. There was some confusion on using it via a bluetooth connection with my desk top computer that has bluetooth capability. It works fine with the bluetooth adapter hookup.

Great, but… 4
I am very pleased with the Canon MP970 printer except for one critical problem. Sometimes it doesn’t print the black ink. It is amazing how much paper I have used to get this to work. I think the problem is that I have left the printer on and don’t close down after each use. I understand that the printer puts caps on the ink tops so they don’t dry out. When I run the nozzle cleaning check it prints a great copy and tells me that the nozzles aren’t clogged, and then I usually get the printer to print black. I am hoping that this is the only problem, which will just require for me to make sure I turn the computer off after each use. That is a nuisance, but not an enormous problem. Otherwise, this is a great printer. The copies are sharp and the printer is easy to use.

Great Unit! 5
I purchased this printer to complement an old HP Laserjet. I was looking for scanning and color printing capability. I have used the Canon to scan documents to PDF files; used the copy function; printed photographs; and scanned old photos to store them electronically. I have also used the copy function to enlarge text. I haven’t really used the printer extensively, but am delighted to have this varied capability in my home office, all in one unit.

The printer is on my network and I am able to print & scan wirelessly from my laptop. For a net price of $[…], how can you go wrong!

Review

—–

As an artist living in shared living space I was looking for a small, space saving, inexpensive all in one, and was surprised with the features of the MP970. I didn’t do as much pre-purchasing research, and simply trusted the reviewer’s research as well as my former positive experiences with Canon. When the printer arrived promptly via UPS I was taken aback by the sheer weight and size, especially compared to my old printer and another, older All in One. However, I gave it a test run before deciding whether or not to send it back.

As I was unpacking, I noticed the printer was very sturdy. It definitely didn’t feel like cheap plastic and to my surprise had many extras. First, a bottom tray was hidden and secured well. Second, the LCD panel on top was also well fixed and quite firm in build. The back had the duplexer you could remove for jams as well as two ports for networking or USB.

After hooking it up to the system I scanned the first image. I previously owned a canon scanner that was horrible compared to Epson, so I didn’t expect the output I saw. The scans were almost as clear as epson’s using out of the box settings while being lightning fast and whisper quiet. The software is also very extensive and with a bit of tweaking you can scan vivid documents with excellent contrast.

Document printing is what I expect from a new generation Canon: clear and fast. And like scanning printing is exceptionally quiet on this machine. I was unable to test photo printing extensively but from what I’ve seen, photos on ilford or canon gloss should be quite impressive.

Finally from my experience using quite a few Canon and epson printers, Canon’s print head usually do not experience the clogging issue of Epsons. One can now use compatible inks (though it is not recommended by Canon) to save on costs for document printing. As for print longevity, research the effects of UV and barrier sprays/sleeves. Dye prints are not as durable as pigments, but if you would like prints for archival purposes you should be looking at a photo lab and (only if you need the control) a dedicated pigment photo printer.

LOVE IT! 5
Well, considering I have only previously had either Lexmark (great to use as a doorstop!) or HP for all my printers, I was hesitant to try another brand. I tend to be almost too brand loyal, even if I’m getting less than what I expected. Must be a comfortability thing..LOL….but I digress…

THIS PRINTER ROCKS!!!!! I absolutely LOVE this awesome bit of techie gadgetry! I am not a professional reviewer, a desk jockey, or someone who has the time and money to waste to keep trying new things for the home.

I can’t even begin to use all the features it has, but for everything I have used, I am seriously impressed. Speed, quality, accuracy, networking, wireless…all fantastic. Have not used it yet for photo prints except on cheap paper, so I don’t think I can give it a fair review on that except to say that I thought it looked good anyway.

The dual sided printing and dual paper tray features are very handy..I also quite like that you can keep the front door closed so it doesn’t gather dust, as it will open automatically when you are printing something.( the cats enjoy the “surprise”) The LCD screen is very easy to see and understand..as close to “point and shoot” as I could say. Some things may be tricky to some folks, but again, I am no office utility pro yet I have not had too much difficulty once I take the time to READ about it! LOL.

7 ink tanks…wow. BUT, the nice part is that you dont have to go buying them all at once, making this more affordable for someone like me who doesn’t really enjoy dropping $40.00 on a multicolor ink tank that I really only needed for one color.

All in all, I have not yet found anything to complain about…nor have the other 2 people in my home who use it wirelessly. So, in summary, this gets a 6 thumbs and 24 paws up review! The cats especially enjoy it for the large, toasty surface it provides for sleeping, hanging off of, spying, skidding across, and paper chasing.
