Good buy. Several options
I bought this GPS system to aid in my in-town and away travels. It’s user friendly and fairly intuitive to use. The speaker was decent. I didn’t find the issues with the volume others experienced.
What I would change to make it better is a free subscription to live traffic update. Also, regarding the traffic update I found that it offered me detours for traffic that had already dissipated. That was a bit troubling.
The only other issue I had was the bluetooth volume. Now that was EXTREMELY LOW. I could barely hear anything and that was sitting still!
Overall, a good quality product for the money.
Owned 2 Units, both were FULL of Isues
I purchased this unit 2 months ago. The first unit I owned would freeze constantly, would route me through the most bizarre directions, and would shut off on its own. I exchanged it for another of the same model. This model has the same issues and finally stopped getting a satellite connection altogether.
This model was attractive initially because it had text-to-speech and bluetooth. Text-to-speech is a great idea but really isn’t all that helpful especially for users who enjoy taking advantage of the nice size screen and its visuals. The Bluetooth was a cool idea too but the speaker/mic is so poor, no one could hear me when I used it as a hands-free device.
The Speech Commands are a cool idea too, but you have to scream so loud at the thing for it to hear! Often times it would spontaneously shout out “Say a Command” when I had said nothing. Both my units did this.
The Magellan 4250 seems like a great value and looks great but it is so full of bugs (both units!!) that I am surprised they would even release it to the public. I have no doubt the QA people at Magellan are stressing like mad right now trying to keep tabs on this device.
I am going to attempt to exchange it for a Garmin. . . I know, a Garmin. I’ve only owned Magellan units but that’s what happens when you have a faulty product, you lose customers.
Accessories included with package
The description of the product on Amazon improperly says a wall charger is not included. In fact, an AC wall charger and a padded protective pouch for the GPS are included. I had ordered both, and had to return the wall charger but decided to keep the Navigon pouch. I am satisfied with the GPS. Seems reasonable for the price.
Magellan 4250 GPS
I just can’t sat enough good things about this. This is just a really good gps unit. If you have one of these and follow where it tells you to go I don’t see how you could get lost. I have even used it in downtown Chicago with no problems at all. Except me making a wrong turn but the gps got me back to where I should have been going in less than 5 min. Try doing that without a gps!
Once lost but now I’m found…
Excellent in almost every way. Interaction is easy. Maps are great. I’ve found roads I never knew existed. Best investment I’ve probably ever made.
